Liebe Leser*innen,

wir gratulieren Prof. Dr. Beatrice Rammstedt, die am 14. Juni 2024 vom Kuratorium zur Vizepräsidentin bestellt wurde. Wie bereits in der Juni-Ausgabe des Newsletters berichtet, hat GESIS inzwischen einen Mehrpersonenvorstand, der aus Präsident*in, Vizepräsident*in und administrativem Vorstandsmitglied besteht.

Prof. Dr. Beatrice Rammstedt ist damit neben dem Präsidenten das zweite wissenschaftliche Vorstandsmitglied. Prof. Dr. Rammstedt wird sich insbesondere dem Bereich Forschung, einschließlich der Förderung von Wissenschaftler*innen in frühen Karrierephasen und der Drittmittelstrategie widmen.

congratulations to Prof. Dr. Beatrice Rammstedt, who was appointed Vice President by the Board of Trustees on June 14, 2024. As already reported in the June issue of the newsletter, GESIS now has a multi-person executive board consisting of a president, vice president and administrative board member.

Prof. Dr. Beatrice Rammstedt is thus the second scientific board member alongside the president. Prof. Dr. Rammstedt will focus in particular on the area of research, including the promotion of scientists in early career phases and the third-party funding strategy.

Sie nutzen jährliche Umfragen des Zentrums für Militärgeschichte und Sozialwissenschaften der Bundeswehr, um die Einstellungen zur Bundeswehr, zu den Verteidigungsausgaben, zur Bündnisverteidigung und zur Zusammenarbeit mit den deutschen NATO-Partnern zu erfassen.

New blog post: Steinbrecher and Jedinger analyze trends and changes in security-related attitudes among the German public

In this post, Dr. Markus Steinbrecher and Dr. Alexander Jedinger analyze long-term trends in security-related attitudes among the German public and recent changes due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. We will use annual surveys from the Bundeswehr Center for Military History and Social Sciences to cover attitudes towards the Bundeswehr, defense spending, alliance defense, and collaboration with Germany’s NATO partners.

Prof. Dr. Beatrice Rammstedt neues Vorstandsmitglied von GESIS

GESIS - Leibniz-Institut für Sozialwissenschaften hat in den letzten Jahren intensiv an einer neuen Satzung gearbeitet, die nun im Vereinsregister eingetragen ist. Eine der wichtigsten Änderungen ist, dass der Vorstand von GESIS künftig aus drei Personen besteht: zwei wissenschaftlichen Vorstandsmitgliedern und einem administrativen Vorstandsmitglied.

Das Kuratorium hat am 14. Juni 2024 Prof. Dr. Beatrice Rammstedt zur Vizepräsidentin bestellt. Sie ist damit neben dem Präsidenten das zweite wissenschaftliche Vorstandsmitglied. Prof. Dr. Rammstedt wird sich als wissenschaftliches Vorstandsmitglied insbesondere dem Bereich Forschung, einschließlich der Förderung von Wissenschaftler*innen in frühen Karrierephasen und der Drittmittelstrategie widmen, während Prof. Dr. Wolf sich federführend der Weiterentwicklung und Steuerung des Angebotsportfolios, einschließlich der Internationalisierung und Qualitätssicherung der Angebote widmen wird.

Prof. Dr. Beatrice Rammstedt new member of the GESIS Executive Board

Over the past few years, GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences has been working intensively on a new statute, which has now been entered in the register of associations. One of the most important changes is that the Executive Board of GESIS will in future consist of three people: two scientific board members and one administrative board member.

On 14 June 2024, the Board of Trustees appointed Prof. Dr Beatrice Rammstedt as Vice President. This makes her the second scientific member of the Executive Board alongside the President. As an academic member of the Executive Board, Prof. Dr Rammstedt will focus in particular on the area of research, including the promotion of academics in early career phases and the third-party funding strategy, while Prof. Dr Wolf will be in charge of the further development and management of the portfolio of services, including the internationalisation and quality assurance of the services.

Erfolgreicher Pre-EPSA-Workshop zum Thema „Multi-data perspectives on democracy"

Am 3. Juli 2024 veranstaltete GESIS gemeinsam mit der Universität Köln einen Workshop zum Thema „Multi-data perspectives on democracy“. Forschende aus aller Welt präsentierten insgesamt 19 Studien, die verschiedene Datentypen kombinieren und daraus Rückschlüsse über die Entwicklung von Demokratie ziehen. Organisiert wurde der Workshop von Chitralekha Basu, Michael Bechtel (beide Uni Köln), Alexia Katsanidou und Sebastian Ziaja (beide GESIS). Finanzielle Unterstützung kam vom Exzellenzcluster ECONtribute.

Successful pre-EPSA workshop on "Multi-data perspectives on democracy"

On July 3, 2024, GESIS and the University of Cologne jointly organized a workshop on "Multi-data perspectives on democracy". Researchers from all over the world presented a total of 19 studies that combine different types of data to draw conclusions about the development of democracy. The workshop was organized by Chitralekha Basu, Michael Bechtel (both University of Cologne), Alexia Katsanidou and Sebastian Ziaja (both GESIS).

Neue GESIS Survey Guideline "Validity in Survey Research – From Research Design to Measurement Instruments" erschienen.

Das Autor*innentrio Lydia Repke, Lukas Birkenmaier, & Clemens M. Lechner gibt in dieser Guideline einen kompakten Überblick über die verschiedenen Bedeutungen, die mit dem Begriff Validität in den Sozial- und Verhaltenswissenschaften verbunden sind. Ziel der Guideline ist es, Forschenden ein konzeptionelles Verständnis der Messvalidität und ein Instrumentarium zur Bewertung der Validität von Messinstrumenten an die Hand zu geben.

New GESIS Survey Guideline "Validity in Survey Research – From Research Design to Measurement Instruments" released

In this guideline, the trio of authors Lydia Repke, Lukas Birkenmaier, & Clemens M. Lechner provide a compact overview of different meanings associated with the term validity in the social and behavioral sciences. The aim of this guideline is to equip researchers with a conceptual understanding of measurement validity and a toolkit for assessing the validity of measurement instruments.

Prof. Dr. Katrin Weller zur W3-Professorin für Forschungsdatenmanagement für die Sozialwissenschaften ernannt

Am 23.7.2024 ernannte die Rektorin der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf Prof. Dr. Anja Steinbeck die GESIS-Abteilungsleiterin Dr. Karin Weller zur W3-Professorin für Forschungsdatenmanagement für die Sozialwissenschaften. Prof. Weller leitet bei GESIS die Abteilung Data Services for the Social Sciences und ist an der HHU im Institut für Sozialwissenschaften tätig.

On 23.7.2024, the Rector of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Prof. Dr. Anja Steinbeck, appointed GESIS department head Dr. Karin Weller as W3 Professor for Research Data Management for the Social Sciences. Prof. Weller heads the Data Services for the Social Sciences department at GESIS and works at the Institute for Social Sciences at HHU.
