Vita

Alexia Katsanidou is the scientific director of the GESIS Department Survey Data Curation and Professor of Empirical Social Research at the University of Cologne.
 
Alexia Katsanidou is a comparative political scientist with an M.A. in Comparative Democratization (2003) and a Ph.D. in Politics (2008) from the Government Department at Essex University, UK. Before that she studied International Politics and Economics at the University of Macedonia in her home country Greece. An important step in her academic carrer was the  Max Weber post-doc Fellowship in European University Institute (2009-2010).

She is a member of the steering committee of the upcoming infrastructre MEDem (Monitoring Electoral Democracy) and the executive of the European Election Study


Service

Alexia's main focus in shaping the strategy of the Survey Data Curation department is around three pillars for survey data: Data Quality, Data Harmonisation and Data Linking.

Forschung

Alexia Katsanidou specializes on the impact of crises and long-term inequalities on individual political attitudes and behaviours, checking for the geographical, institutional and political context . She has worked on the impact of the financial, migration, and political crisis within the EU, as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, on the individual, regional and national level.
