The crisis of the traditional education system
The organization of educational activities in modern is largely inherited from the Soviet education system. However, the industrial society is being replaced by the information society, and the world is developing in the conditions of globalization, which necessitates fundamental reforms in the current education system. The principles of educational material presentation and the role of teachers in the educational process need to be updated. It is necessary to introduce innovative technologies in the educational process, to equip educational institutions with computers and modern equipment. Theoretical training of students should be aimed not at simple memorization of information, but at its understanding and ability to apply it in practice. It should be noted that the 21st century is a time of rapid scientific progress. Thus, today’s teaching materials for educational institutions become outdated tomorrow. It is necessary to constantly update the taught knowledge in accordance with the latest scientific achievements.
Today’s education system is more focused on educating the future theoretical scientist than on training a practitioner. Theoretical knowledge is to a large extent detached from practical activities. Pupils, for the most part, are not able to use the acquired knowledge in their professional activity. Most people who have graduated say that they do not feel ready to start practicing. There are several reasons for this. These include poor practical training, a weak connection between the theoretical material being taught and practice, and an outdated education system that no longer meets the rapidly changing conditions on the labor market.
Russian educational institutions at all levels face constant underfunding. The chronic shortage of funds has a negative impact on salaries in the education sector. Every year this problem becomes only more acute, because educational institutions need computers, modern equipment, textbooks that meet the latest scientific definition textual evidence achievements. Reforms in education are impossible without qualitative updating of pedagogical structure, but the decision of this problem is complicated by low prestige of a profession of the teacher which is a consequence of low salaries in education.
Weak system of correlation between different levels of education
The main levels of education are preschool, school and higher education. Low continuity between all “levels” of the educational process negatively affects the quality of education and prevents students from mastering knowledge deeply. Preschool education in Russia is a poorly organized system that does not provide the necessary amount of knowledge necessary to start learning at school. Often, preschoolers are taught by people who have not received teacher training. The situation is even more complicated with the continuity between school and university. At present, a school leaver does not receive the amount of knowledge required to pass the USE and enter the university. High school students have to turn to paid tutors, because free education does not meet all the needs of future students.
